KindergARTen Enrichment
at
                                    Bellingham Preschool of the Arts

Inspired by the boundless creative energy that all children innately have, we designed the KindergARTen Program to foster your child's academic skills through artistic creation. While exploring some of the "Great Artists" throughout history and many current children's authors, your child will be inspired to read more books, go to the library, visit museums, and view their world in a new way. Our goal is to encourage the "Great Artist" inside your child, while reinforcing the essential academic skills necessary for success in the classroom.

KindergARTen is dedicated to guiding your child in developing stronger communication skills and ways to express themselves. While maintaining our emphasis on art, your child's reading, writing and fine motor skills will be strengthened and refined.

Our daily schedule includes circle time, free play, a variety of art experiences and a healthy snack. Our program will often include experiences in culinary arts, poetry, yoga, singing, dancing and storytelling.
KindergARTen Curriculum

On Mondays, students will be learning about "Great Artists" like Picasso, Miro, Escher, Matisse, Seurat, Van Gogh, Pollock, Warhol, and Stella. Each week we will investigate a new artist and explore their style. Students will become familiar with these artist's pieces and acquire vocabulary terms such as Impressionist, Cubist, Surrealist, and Modern to describe them. Mimicking these artists' techniques, students will create their own personal masterpieces weekly, amassing a varied and impressive portfolio by year's end.

Tue/Thur and Wed/Fri students will have the opportunity to listen to stories written by the best children's authors and illustrators. We will conduct author studies on such notables as Leo Lionni, Eric Carle, Tomie dePaola, Lois Ehlert, Mem Fox, Denise Flemming and Ezra Jack Keats. Drawing inspiration from these magnificent authors, we will use collage, writing, drawing, and painting to create class and personal books. Students will have the opportunity to manipulate a range of mediums including paint, pastels, chalk, clay, and water color. Culinary arts, poetry, yoga, singing, dancing, and storytelling will also be woven into our learning. Our intimate class sizes will encourage your child to take an active role in guiding his or her own projects and establishing personal goals that will nurture their confidence and result in projects that reflect personal interests.
